Your Feelings Are NOT The Truth

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

The devil is really good at twisting and distorting the truth so that evil prevails. There are many false prophets in this world and many more false “truths” being shoved in our faces. There are many preachers, teachers, and influencers who’s teachings can feel like the truth. But that’s the scam. They captivate us by feeding our desires of what we want to be true. But just because we want something to be true, or feel like it is true, doesn’t mean it is.

Just because we feel as though a square is actually a circle, does not make a square a circle. If we fall into this trap, we cause ourselves to become fools.

We have hit a point in this lifetime where people are being pushed to believe their feelings are the truth. But God warns us of this exact thing in the book of Jeremiah: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

Being a woman, I’ve been told my whole life that females are just emotional creatures… While that is a fact, everyone failed to mention that we must NOT always trust those emotions. And so here I am, a born-again, new creation in Christ, and have come to see that as Christians, we are called to not follow our emotions, but rather the facts and truths of God and His word.

Sometimes our emotions are true in the sense of becoming angry against a wrong done to us; being overjoyed when we see a loved one succeed. But what I am trying to say here is that the emotions that get us down and keep us there… Those are from the devil and are not true.

Do you ever feel like you’re better than everyone else? Well nobody is “better” than anybody else. Feeling like you’re the ugliest person on the planet? That’s not true either. Nobody is ugly, because we are all created in the image of God and God is NOT ugly. Feeling like you want to go steal something? Well, that’s a sin against God and there will be repercussions. Feeling like you want to go murder somebody? That’s also a sin, and that feeling isn’t the truth that we must accept and follow. We follow the truth that murder is wrong and so we won’t give into our feelings which are evil.

Did you know…

That the moment we are born, we are sinners? This is because when Adam and Eve sinned against God, they cursed all of the human race. So, every single person born since, is born a sinner. (That’s why we’re referred to as “born-again” when we give our lives to Christ.) Since we are born sinners, it would be quite ironic to consider our feelings as truth.

Our feelings feel real and truthful, but they can never be the truth because they are constantly changing and can be changed. Truth never changes. Thus, our feelings can never be the truth, and they are certainly not a healthy foundation to live on. Candace Cameron Bure said it best in her book Kind Is The New Classy, “Look to God whenever your emotions threaten to take over. You’d never hand your family over to your toddler, so don’t hand your life over to your feelings.”
