‘Tending Roses’ is the title but there’s meaning behind the words…
This book by Lisa Wingate is about a woman named Kate, who went to live with her grandmother for a few weeks before Christmas. She brought her new born baby and her husband with her. The idea was to go to care for her grandmother and sweeten the deal before the rest of the family joins them on Christmas with a plan to convince their grandmother to move into an old age care facility… But, as Rose was secretly cared for herself, by her grandmother, she learned that the best place for her grandmother was right where she was: her home.
This sweet book about the bond of granddaughter and grandmother softened my heart and brought joy to my bones. (It also made me slightly jealous that I don’t have that kind of relationship with my own grandmother! But oh well… I must not envy, but rather enjoy the stories where I can pretend I’m the main character. Right?)
The ease of this story by Lisa Wingate was utterly remarkable; I enjoyed every minute reading it.
The story was a simple one – just the story of life: trials, hardships, heartbreak, grief, trying to find your way… Lisa Wingate really has a talent in making the simple ways of life exciting to read. With wisdom interspersed throughout the book, I promise you will learn something new whether it be as simple as how to tend to roses, or more personal like how to tend to your own heart.
What I also really enjoyed about this Lisa Wingate book is that there was a hidden sprinkle of faith within it. Not an in-your-face kind of faith, but just enough to warm your heart if you’re a Christian. It gave me the reminder that Christians don’t always have to be in-your-face about their faith to still get the message across.
*This book is CLEAN (no sex scenes) for it’s not even a romance book at all. It’s just a fun, simple, enjoyable book about family and life. May your life be forever changed after reading it.
Thank you Lisa Wingate for gracing us with your incredible talent!
God bless you all.
