Yoga is a tradition that many people use today. Some Christians even claim to do “Christian” yoga.
When one is doing yoga, each stance that the person does is a worship stance to a god of the Hindu origin. This tradition has become so normalized in society, that not too many people even realize what they are doing. And the Christians who do know, have tried to add prayer to God into their yoga routine, believing it will make it okay. But the thing is, that even if we are praying with our mouths to the Lord, we are knowingly worshipping other gods with our bodies in the stances we hold.
This is adulterous towards God. Do not fall into the devil’s traps.
Let it go and find another form of exercise. There are many ways one can exercise without worshipping gods.
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Your body and spirit are connected.
A couple of years ago, my husband shared an intimate moment with me and while I was writing this chapter, I realized it connects perfectly to this topic. It was a moment he had when he decided to meditate one day when he was a teenager. He sat on his couch and rather than thinking about nothing, he focused his attention on the ringing in his ears. The more he focused, the louder it got. And then, before he knew it, he could see his body, limp, on the couch below him.
An out of body experience.
When he came back, he realized that though our souls only inhabit our bodies for a little while, everything that he experienced in his body, he took with him. All of his memories, thoughts, feelings — everything — was with him when he was out of his body.
So, although it is “just a body,” everything that is experienced in our body is connected with our soul. His experience proves the false proclamations of the Corinthians.
Though they may become separate in death, everything that is done to the body is done to the spirit.
