I have to admit, my favourite aspect of Pureflix, is that the movies on it aren’t afraid to display death, because death in this life is a good thing for believers, for they have began their new life in eternity with the Lord. I appreciate how they don’t shy away from the topic and how they healthily show the reaction one has – or should have – on death.
Chloe’s Mountain is no exception to this. There were a couple of scenes where characters died. There were common grief filled reactions to the tragedies, but essentially all was okay because the ones around them knew where they were now.
Chloe’s Mountain was about a young girl just trying to find her way in the world. Pursuing music in rock band she formed with her friends, she was quite the talk of the little town she lived in with her grandmother. The classic gossip went around in the “righteous” mouths, yet Chloe’s grandmother always knew what to say and to direct people to the righteous word of God.
There was a story that her grandmother shared with her that I wanted to share with you:
Once there was a water bearer who had two large pots. Each pot hung on the end of a pole, which he carried across his neck. Every day he would walk from the stream to his house. Now one pot was perfect. And the other pot was cracked. So every day as he went from the stream to his house, the cracked pot leaked all the way up there. Of course the perfect pot was proud of itself. But the poor cracked pot felt ashamed, miserable, and even angry. After years of feeling like a bitter failure, it finally spoke to the water bearer.
“I am cracked and broken. I am useless and miserable.”
The bearer said to the pot, “Did you notice the flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other side? That’s because I’ve always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side. So every day as we walk from the stream to the house, you’ve watered those flowers. Now I have beautiful flowers to grace my house.”
We’re all cracked, but God’s like the water bearer. He knows what’s going to happen and He prepares us, if we let Him.
Chloe’s grandmother died soon after, leaving everything to Chloe, but ONLY if she went to Christian College would she inherit it right away. Otherwise she wouldn’t receive anything until she was 35. Of course that was the last place Chloe wanted to go, but she really had no other choice. She had no other family, so really what else was she to do?
I won’t ruin the rest for you. But instead, I advise you to watch it. Though it may not be the best production quality, it was a great story, navigating the ways of the life of Christians. Touching on themes of grief, temptation, sin, and surrender, this movie was a great example of all.
And don’t forget: We are all cracked pots, but our water bearer loves us anyhow.
God bless.
