A Jar Full of Light by Rae Walsh – Book Review

A Jar Full Of Light

This book is the second book of a series. It ties into the first book beautifully, because, while you get new main characters, the book begins essentially right where the first one left off – continuing the story, but with an outside perspective of Katie and her beau, Sam.

This book follows Theresa – Sam’s sister – and her twisted story of fear, guilt, shame, and suffering.

In this book, Theresa moves back to Aveline, after 10 years away. She moved out of Aveline originally out of fear, for someone in town was threatening not only her life, but her daughter’s life and the life of the man she loves – Sheldon.

All of those years gone, Sheldon waited for Theresa. He just “knew” she was going to come back. Little did he know she ACTUALLY would. And now that she was here, his emotions became twisted and confused…

As we follow Theresa and Sheldon as they try to maneuver through the battles of fear and love, we get to witness realistic scenes of them hanging out, reacquainting, dealing with anger and resentment, and falling in love all over again.

And within this story, we get to finally find out why Theresa ran away all those years ago… And the terrifying consequences of her coming back to town.

This book was different to the first one because, as I thought Rae Walsh would have stayed in a genre box, she stepped out of writing just a classic fiction story, to adding mystery and suspense. It was thrilling. It was adrenaline pumping. And it was so satisfying.

You will not be disappointed reading this book.

*As a writer, this book was fun to read because of the detail and realism Rae Walsh writes with. It’s fun to find books that feel like you’re reading the stories of old friends. And this is just how these books feel.

The one thing about this series is that you HAVE to read them in order, otherwise you don’t get the full story and the effect of each story as they intertwine and unwind perfectly into each other. Thus, AFTER you read this one, then you must read the third and final book of this series: The Fire in our Hearth
