‘Spinning Out’ Of Control – A Netflix T.V. Show Review

This short show on Netflix called ‘Spinning Out’ was an incredible show. The production was high quality, the acting was near perfect, and the script couldn’t have been better… Maybe except for the ending. Personally, I wish the ending did a better job at tying up all the loose ends. It did the job, but yeah. For some reason, I guess scripts are just written that way… Or maybe it’s because it all just seemed too soon to come to an end, because we wish it to go on forever.

EDIT: ‘Spinning Out’ just didn’t get renewed for a new season… So considering that it was supposed to have a next season in the writing of the show, the ending was semi-satisfying… It gives the audience a chance to continue the story for themselves rather than potentially ruining the quality of the characters with something you wouldn’t have wanted to happen. Which I appreciate as an author, myself. I love the mystery of the unknown future to characters and the ability to create your own within your own imagination.

If you’re anything like me, you get attached to characters quickly. Sometimes I get so into shows that I feel like I am the main character — like I can feel her pain and know what she’s thinking…

* A WARNING: If you’re anything like me, you get attached to characters quickly. Sometimes I get so into shows that I feel like I am the main character — like I can feel her pain and know what she’s thinking…  If you’re like me and you think you may be triggered by a show like this, then certainly don’t watch it. There are many other shows you can watch that I’m sure are much better than this one. 😉

‘Spinning Out’ — on the ice as a figure skater — and spinning out of control off the ice.

This show brings attention to the mental illness ‘bipolar disorder.’ And it did a great job depicting the ups and downs of mental illness, and how, not just the person experiencing the mental illness suffers, but how everyone around them suffers too.

‘Spinning Out’ is about a figure skater named Kat, who suffers a head trauma after falling during a competition skate. She then suffers bipolar disorder after her recovery. On top of that, her mother also suffers from bipolar and has, all of Kat’s life. Along with her sister, Serena, the two suffer the consequences of when their mother goes off her meds and goes manic, time and time again. Of course, this show follows the progression of other character’s lives as well, however the main character is Kat and how she struggles with her PTSD of falling and her dying love for skating.

Kat fails her exam to become a coach, and was devastated she would never skate again… But then she was offered the opportunity to be a partners skater…

Kat has only ever skated alone her entire life, so being a partner was something to learn… But, as her relationship with Justin becomes comfortable and trustworthy, things start to steam up and shortly get out of control for Kat.

As somebody who grew up with debilitating anxiety and who acquired depression at the age of 17-18, it’s strange how no matter what mental illness is being shown, it somehow becomes a trigger to mine…

There was a time in my life, after I was S.A.’d, when I had to learn how to deal with the suicidal depression, PTSD, and anxiety I was dealing with. I was all alone in my mental illness, either because nobody cared or I was that good at hiding it… But honestly, most people don’t notice because they’re just consumed in their own world.

Anyways… In the state that I was in, I recall a time where I perhaps could have considered myself ‘manic’ — certainly not to the point of how the main character gets in this show, but I feel like I could relate to at least that wild, crazy character one becomes when dealing with mental illness. Which is why it was such an intriguing and exciting show for me to watch. I connecting with the character in a way I never thought I would have.

‘Spinning Out’ is a must see for anyone who loves figure skating and admires the drive of a woman just trying to do what she loves while struggling with the garbage life throws at you.
