As Christians, we are called to pray about everything. We are called to be fervent and steadfast; never ceasing in our prayers. But we fail to realize that there are certain things that can stop our prayers from being heard…
Our prayers will NOT be heard… If we:
Cherish sin in our hearts:
“Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!”
Psalm 66:16-20
Shut our ears to the cries of the poor:
“Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.”
Proverbs 21:13
Turn a deaf ear to the Lord’s instruction:
“If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable.”
Proverbs 28:9
Ask for things with wrong motives:
“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
James 4:3
Are prideful and wicked:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
These are all heart issues that will lead us away from God and into living in sin… Which makes sense as to why God would not hear us or answer us when we pray in these ways…
As Christians, we are called to be Christ-like; we are called to live with renewed minds and hearts in Jesus; we are called to be transformed in His loving ways. We are not called to live in the ways we did before Christ. Thus, when we pray, we must be extremely conscious and attentive to our heart’s. Before we pray for anything, we must repent and ask the Lord to change our heart’s so that we may live better to glorify Him and so that He may hear our prayers.
