If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour – and have been born again in His Spirit – His Spirit now lives in you. Don’t believe me? Check it out:
“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” -Romans 8:11
Now do you believe me? Incredible isn’t it?
I’d like to now address a major issue/struggle/lie some may face. I know I’ve faced this issue many times and still there are days that I allow this lie to win.
“But I’m not Jesus. I’m a sinful person. Jesus was perfect – He was literally God in the flesh. How can we even try to be as perfect as Him?”
We say these things when we’re faced with the facts of being a Christian in a lustful, desirable, tempting world.
The problem is that we forget “the Spirit of Him… if living in you.”
We have the same power He had, for He was gracious and kind enough to send Him – the Holy Spirit – to us. So why must we keep on pretending as though He is not all powerful? Why must we believe He does not have the power to change us – to give us the help and strength to walk with Him, in His power and His perfectness?
“But we’re human. Naturally we’ll sin,” you say. But HE says,
“Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.” -Romans 8:9
So although we are human, we no longer live in our fleshly nature – if, again, we have been born again in His Spirit.
