River Falls – Whispers of Truth
Valerie M. Bodden never fails to fill my heart with beautiful love stories between characters and between characters and God. Every single book of hers that I read, is like I’m gaining new friends (if only the characters were real! haha).
Whispers of Truth is a book about determination, perseverance, and suffering through grief. Reading this through my own personal struggle with grief, I believe it gave me an extra special boost of grace and acceptance that grief is hard and while the healing process is different for everyone, grief itself is very much the same for our hearts.
The main characters – Summer and Benjamin – lose a very important person in their life: TJ – Summer’s brother and Benjamin’s best friend. In this loss, TJ’s son, Max, is now the only concern of Summer’s; she is determined to get custody. Also in this loss, Benjamin feels the need to protect Summer and Max at all costs.
In the fight for custody of Max, Summer and Benjamin feel obligated to get married in order to prove to the judge that they can care for Max. Now of course, Summer gets the idea that this was all out of obligation and Benjamin doesn’t actually love her…
In this back and forth, tug of rope, push and pull type of situation, you get to see the determination of Summer to keep her distance from Benjamin, but also the great desire to be with him… Will she finally understand that Benjamin has actually loved her all along?
The joys of a Christian book – when the story is more important than the characters having sex.
It was really nice to read the strength in Summer to be able to keep her distance and not just cave to her emotions and physical desires… Even in the vulnerability of her grief, her strength prevails.
Even though this book doesn’t touch on God too much, like some of Valerie’s other books, it still has just enough to satisfy the Christian heart. Because even though there may not be lengthy sermons or what-not, the story itself is interwoven with salt-of-the-earth Christians that glorify God in all that they are. Bless Valerie Bodden’s heart and soul that she is able to write these stories as beautifully as she does. Praise the Lord for this amazing author.
If you’re a Christian, and looking for some CLEAN romance reads, Valerie M. Bodden’s books are the books for you.
