Valentine’s Day is a special day of the year. And while many people have taken a turn in the other direction – deciding that it’s a no-good holiday – there is still a forever place in my heart for this day. Mainly because it’s a great holiday to teach children the importance and love and the different ways in which we can show our love to our family and friends.
5 years ago, my husband and I decided to do the 5 Love Languages tests for ourselves and we read the book together. It was honestly such a beautiful experience that connected us in a special way.
When I did the test, my number 1 love language was, surprise surprise, words of affirmation. Being the writer – and reader – I am, of course I appreciate words of appreciation directly at me. Am I right?
Below is one of my children’s books I wrote for one of my nieces for Valentine’s Day. It focuses on the love language words of affirmation. Maybe I wrote it this way because it’s my #1 love language, and maybe not. I will never know…
All I know is that I would love to share the story with all of you.

So, Flora the flamingo expresses her love to her family and friends on Valentine’s Day, through special hand-made cards with a message in each about why she loves said person. She writes 7 in total and then a special one for the reader at the end. I think this book would be a lovely example for your children to learn about this love language of words of affirmation. I think it’s a great book to share with your children to teach them some ways they can share with their family and friends why they love them.
If you think this may be a book you’d like to read with your children this Valentine’s Day, you can order it here. 🙂
