Amy Carmichael was such a wise woman. I wish I could have met her. Her writings are so thoughtful, wise, and coated with the love and grace of Jesus Christ. This book specifically, “If,” considers what love is and not just any kind of love but Calvary love.
What does it mean to have a Calvary kind of love? What does it mean to have a sacrificial kind of love? What does it mean to have a Christ-like love?
We are called to love our neighbours as ourselves, yet every single one of us struggles with this seemingly “simple” commandment… It isn’t so simple! For we are selfish, and prideful, and bitter and mean. But Amy Carmichael calls out all of our human pitfalls and graciously convicts us of our low points.

When I found it on amazon and realized it was only $7, I didn’t even hesitate to order a copy. When I received it I was shocked to see just how small it was – pocket sized – and how relatively little writing was inside. I did not expect it to have a poetry style to it. However, I am a poet myself, so I enjoy reading poetry, but I especially enjoyed reading this little quotes and the rest of her writing within this book.
With it only being $7, as soon as I fell in love with this book, I purchased many more to hand out to my fellow sisters in Christ. And I love having them on hand just in case! It is a lovely gift for anyone…
