FEAR: A PATH TOWARDS SATAN
Fear is a painful, all-consuming emotion. According to Psychology Today, “fears are mental obstacles that limit people’s actions and decisions, often preventing them from making progress.”
When you’re fearful of something, it’s all you can think about. You live differently; you live unhappily; you don’t live your life to its fullest. And that’s how Satan traps you.
He causes your relationship with the Lord to be faulty. He causes your memory of Scripture to fail you when you need it the most. He doesn’t want you to prosper. Satan wants nothing more than for you to live in fear: of death, of sickness, and of the future…
1. Fear Of Death
Many people are terrified of dying, so much so, that they won’t even think about it. But not thinking about it makes the fear even worse. The subject of dying scares so many because they have no foundation to stand on. The world can be blamed for this: it’s filled with so many ideas to choose from, how can you really know what the truth is?
The world feeds lies like reincarnation or nothing at all… Both of which are quite terrifying if you think about it. Only Christianity offers the solid and firm foundation of Heaven for eternity should we believe in Jesus, or Hell should we not.
Now the fear of death could turn into the fear of hell, and quite honestly, we should all fear hell. But we should all fear God more. For “the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death (Proverbs 14:27).”
To anyone who fears death, they must get to know Jesus. He is the only one who can cure this fear, for He conquered death! And not just for His sake, but for all of us. Jesus can set us free from the chains of the devil, who holds us captive in our fear of death.
Jesus died and rose from the dead to prove that death should not — must not — have a hold on us anymore. Sin brought death. But Jesus brings life.
When we declare in our hearts and spirits that Jesus is the son of God, that He is Lord, and that He rose from the dead… We, too, will be saved from death. God sanctified us through the blood of Jesus, so that we are saved from eternal death.
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he [Jesus] also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
2. Fear Of Getting Hurt Or Sick
Another common fear is getting hurt or sick. Of course nobody wants to get hurt or sick, but it’s inevitable. We live in a fallen world that’s not perfect.
To fear broken bones, a broken heart, cancer, brain damage or even the common cold is quite normal. But of course the world makes these fears ten times worse by feeding us lies, trying to get us to believe it’s all worse than it is.
While this fear is natural, it’s still a component of a lack of faith. These things are that of the world. And when we focus on such things, we forget the power the Lord has over the world and our fears. We forget the Lord only gives us what He knows we can handle and that He works all things together for the good of those who love Him.
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper…”
“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: What can man do unto me?”
The Lord is with us. He is our protector, our shelter and our strength. We shall not fear the pains and diseases of this world. For our God is bigger than it all and no matter what, everything always works out for His glory.
3. Fear Of The Unknown Future
What comes next? What’s going to happen around the corner? How do we plan our lives? How can we live joyfully when we don’t even know what’s going to come next?
When we allow fear to take a hold of us — when we fear making any sudden moves — we allow Satan to control our lives. And when we allow Satan to have control over our lives, we fail to have faith in God. We fail our Father.
God promises to watch over us. He promises to protect us. He promises to help us prosper and give us a future. He has full control over our lives. We need only to be still, and walk in faith with our Lord. For when we have faith, we will succeed.
Satan is sneaky. He doesn’t just come out and say, “Hey I’m here! It’s me Satan!” No. He secretly makes his way around, whispering doubts and fears into our ears. You don’t even realize it’s him, until it’s too late.
Here’s the thing: the future will always be unknown. That’s just the way it is. We could plan out exactly how we expect our whole life to go, and yet, it will never go to that plan.
The future is just something that we need to accept will never go the way we expect and we will never be able to control; it’s something that we need to faithfully place in God’s hands.
We need to trust that God is going to get us through all that He has planned for us and we must remember that God is good and He has good plans for us.
